Another Voice: NY HEAT Act would help consumers with their energy costs

National Fuel is proposing to raise gas bills for customers at an average of $136 per year to pay for continued fracked gas pipeline spending and antiquated technology. Gov Hochul can take action in her upcoming executive budget to stop gas utilities from throwing customer money at an unreliable energy system, by including the NY Home Affordable Energy (HEAT) Act in her 2024 budget. NY HEAT Act would complement the funding coming in from the Inflation Reduction Act by capping monthly energy bills at no more than 6% of a household’s income.
