In response to FY 2027 Executive Budget, NY Renews Executive Director Stephan Edel issued the following statement on behalf of the coalition:

Governor Hochul’s Executive Budget leaves New Yorkers without bold, ongoing investments in clean air, clean energy, or climate justice. In an era of accelerating climate catastrophe, the Governor’s approach is a markedly unbalanced approach that leaves us with more questions than answers. Where is this year’s Sustainable Future Fund appropriation — the investments we need to provide New Yorkers with lower energy bills, good union jobs, and green, healthy homes? Where is NY’s Clean Air Initiative, a cap and invest program, to ensure that low bills, good jobs, and green homes will be funded for decades to come? Where is the full restoration of EmPower+ funding to support low- and middle-income households with energy efficiency and affordability?

The climate crisis is pummeling our people. While Governor Hochul claims this budget will help protect us from federal cuts and high taxes, she is abandoning the programs that would actually protect New Yorkers from deadly heat, rising seas, and unaffordable energy bills. Taxing the ultra-wealthy or launching a pollution cap program would create the multi-billion-dollar ongoing revenue stream that we need to address the climate and affordability crisis across our state.

Governor Hochul, New Yorkers deserve better.
