Another Voice: Climate justice is economic justice

Affordability is on everybody’s mind, but Gov. Kathy Hochul is using it as an excuse to avoid climate leadership, choosing the fossil fuel industry over frontline communities. She is misleading the public and attempting to gut the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act behind closed doors in the budget.

Despite the fact that switching to renewable energy like solar and battery storage makes energy affordable and reliable, the governor is keeping us hooked on fossil fuels. Instead of making polluters pay, investing in clean energy, improving health and sending money back to New Yorkers, she is working to weaken the CLCPA and delay the cap-and-invest program.
